Became a Cypriot citizen through marriage and now remarried?

A new court ruling means your new spouse can't rely on your citizenship to get theirs.
On 15 October 2026, the Administrative Court of Appeal ruled that a person who acquired Cypriot citizenship by registration cannot pass the right to register on to a foreign spouse they marry later.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 C𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱:
📌 The court upheld the Ministry of Interior's refusal to register a foreign national as a Cypriot citizen.
📌 Citizenship by registration, through descent or marriage, must be used only within the limits set by law.
📌 The same applies to a child who is not the child of the spouse through whom citizenship was originally obtained.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
